January Take Two

In monthly recap, musings on January 31, 2010 at 6:28 pm

oooh, I think I need a baby Tai Shan

[deep breath]

After a leisurely drive through Maryland farmland, it’s time to say goodbye to January Twenty-Ten.

But before a new month begins, here are 10 special moments January brought:

1. Saying goodbye to baby Tai Shan before he leaves the National Zoo

2. Getting my pup groomed for the first time in months

one of the cool crystals

3. Watching the late afternoon sun turn a frozen lake into a shimmering turquoise color

4. Holding a dear friend after her mama passed away

5. Seeing the magic of crystals at the Museum of Natural History

6. Starting a blog

7. Drinking an old-fashioned milkshake at a pseudo old-fashioned diner

8. Pausing as a herd of white-tail deer sprint across the road

9. Being the preferred spot for two felines to sleep

me (with a sporty new cap) at the Eastern Market

10. Sipping on herbal tea purchased at the Eastern Market in DC

What Do You Believe?

In exercises, musings on January 29, 2010 at 6:32 pm

While surveying the archaeological dig of my soul, I’ve been evaluating my beliefs. Some, rock, and others (like the “thin=beautiful” one) kinda…suck.

After identifying a belief that I like and want to embrace, I’m celebrating it in my journal. Check out my latest find…

"life is an illusion..."

"...I choose my reality"

here, I listed the reality I am creating

A Bunny Trail

In free download, iphone wallpaper on January 28, 2010 at 8:40 pm

While trying to figure out what to make for dinner, I got a little distracted and bounced from link to link to….

And, well, all of that bouncing got me inspired to make a wallpaper for my iPhone.

(Dinner? Well, I ended up making a salad and cooking a ready-made Chicken Cordon Bleu–so much for finding a recipe, but…dinner tasted good, anyway!)

So…back to the wallpaper (mmm…are you noticing a bunny-trail pattern?), I designed two–both with the phrase “Choose Your Destiny” (which, seriously, I’m thinking of tattooing on my other wrist–oops, there’s another bunny trail!).

But, hey, 1) if you have an iPhone, and 2) you’d like one of my freshly minted wallpapers, I’d be happy to share one or both with you.

I haven’t figured out how to load the files so you can actually download them, so drop me a line via the comments section and I can email the files your way.

5 Things

In grateful on January 26, 2010 at 2:32 pm

Today, I am so very grateful for:

1. Hearing from long-lost friends.

2. The chance to listen to some of Byron Katie’s mind-altering philosophies. So very simple in concept, yet so challenging to embrace and do.

3. Being faced with a chance to put some of Katie’s ideas into practice.

4. A cuddly scarf that’s keeping me warm while I’m working in the library.

5. Creative ideas that are rolling around my mind.

I don’t have a lot to say today, so I thought I’d follow Teddy’s advice, and do the best I can today.

Seeing Clearly

In choose your destiny on January 23, 2010 at 6:31 pm

“Honestly, Gaylene,” I said to my sister this week, “I don’t ever see myself getting a job.”

Our conversation continued as we chatted about the economy and life. But here I am, a few days later, and that little phrase keeps snagging my attention.

“…don’t ever see myself getting a…”

“…see myself…”

OMG—I get it! I stopped visioning.

You see, once upon a time I imaged up the sweetest home in the quaintest town. I saw it. I knew it. And I even drew it. And one day…I drove down a perfect little street and there it was: for sale!

(Damn, I was good at visioning!) [pat-pat-patting myself on the back]

And then my life shifted, stretched, and well…the image faded.

And I stopped visioning.

And here’s my big confession: I stopped believing that visioning worked. (And honestly, it got so dark that I couldn’t even think of a single thing to vision!)

[Granted, that darned, internal negadob voice didn’t help as it bemoaned, “That dream didn’t work out so what makes you think this hoodoo-voodoo imaging will work now?!”]

[Oh, hush, you old poop!]

So here goes: Eyes closed. What do I see?

  1. Oooh, an invitation to speak at TED. Cool. Very cool indeed!
  2. Chatting with Oprah on her Soul Series. Yes, yes, I can see it.
  3. Painting. Really? That’s a new one, but I like it.
  4. Spiritual and Creative Unearthing Workshps. Ooohhh…I’m excited to teach those!
  5. Zoëful Noise Community Art Projects. I can’t wait to start those!
  6. and…

Today, I am grateful for:

1. How Skype makes chatting with my sister, who lives in the Phillipines, feel like we’re next-door neighbors.

2. The magical feeling of walking into a library.

3. Fresh strawberries with whipped cream. (Yumm-o!)

4. Finding a front-row parking spot at the library.

5. A little, freshly groomed Schnauzer asleep at my side.
