Stick a Needle in My…

In choose your destiny, musings, synchronicity on November 8, 2010 at 5:20 pm

Was that a needle you just poked in my ear or are you just…?

And it wasn’t just one needle–it was five needles—in each ear!

Nope, I wasn’t exploring my masochistic side (well, not too much!), instead I had my very first experience with acupuncture. And although there was a teeny twinge of ouchness, it lasted but a second. And for the next hour, I simply relaxed, meditated and felt really grounded.

[A feat this live-in-her-header often struggles with!]

Ironically, needle-piercing sandwiched my weekend.

You see, last night I got my second tattoo.

On the inside of my left wrist, my first tattoo reads, “take a deep breath.” And now my second tattoo—on my other wrist—reads, “be here now.”

[More words for this not-so-grounded lady to live by!]

Perhaps a smidge of pain to get to that desired, grounded calm…

It’s a Sign

In choose your destiny on November 1, 2010 at 4:48 pm

On. Off.

The electric sign on the side of the freeway queried: “Terror Tips?” (Which was then followed by a toll-free number.)

A remnant from Halloween? I think not.

For some reason the wording of this blinking sign snagged a little spot in my mind.

“Terror Tips?”

[Sure, I get it, I was driving along the Capital Beltway and we all need to be aware, and there are “bad guys” out there and…I know, I know, I know]

But think about it—how does seeing the word “terror” blazing in your eyes on a Monday morning commute affect your psyche?

You see, I believe that we see what we want to see. And if we’re focusing on “terror,” no doubt, that’s what we’ll see.

[Naïve? Perhaps. But that’s my story and I’m sticking to it, folks! :D]

So how about we change that blinking sign? I think “Joy Tips,” “Peace Tips” or “Happiness Tips” has a much better vibe.

In fact, I figure that the word “terrorist” is passé! Let’s start a new label.

mmm…what sounds good to you?

“Hi, my name’s Tracy and I’m a peace-ist.”

“Look at me, I’m a joy-ist!”

What about…
“Yes, I’m a harmony-tarian.”

They’ve got a good ring, don’t they. In fact, I’m sure I’m the tipping point!

Yep—no doubt, you’ll be seeing t-shirts, buttons and campaigns declaring these great phrases. We’ll start a wave of change. Remember, you heard it first here! (tee-hee!)

Cheers, my friends!

PS: Further down the beltway a sign blinked, “Expect Major Delays.” I expected smooth sailing and that’s exactly what I got! Magic, huh?

iSpy: Something that Is Fabulous…

In grateful, painting with light on October 24, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Looking for something fab-u-lous?

This afternoon, I discovered another of DC’s hidden gems: Hillwood Museum and Gardens. The museum is gilded to the hilt but the gardens…

…absolutely stunning.

Enjoy some of the sites I spied in the place “where fabulous lives.”

Orchids are simply magical...

Gorgeousness greets us at the entrance.

A daliah on the verge...

Amen, sista!

10 Things on 10.10.10

In Uncategorized on October 10, 2010 at 4:16 pm

To honor the idea of discovering new lands, we headed out and hit the back roads of Pennsylvania and New York.

Check out 10 of the cool finds I spied today:

1. Two fishermen walking down a stream.

2. Perfectly placed pumpkins on front porches.

3. A man talking to a goat, a horse nudging a chicken and two pigs burrowing in their sty.

4. A ginko leaf that was transforming from green to gold.

5. Purple and golden mums filling roadside stands.

6. A farmer cutting down the tall, dry cornstalks.

7. Sweet lavender flowers in Allegheny State Park.

8. Ghosts dancing around a tree.

9. Crimson. Maroon. Gold. Orange. Rust. And flaming red. Welcome, fall!

10. A rainbow growing out of the mist at Niagara Falls.

Happy 10.10.10, everyone!

Words + New Ideas = Mind-blowing Podcast

In musings on October 7, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Whatcha doin’ tonight?

If you have an hour to spare, consider listening to this fun Radio Lab podcast on…words.

Their power. Their ability to make you think. I mean, really think.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Radio Lab but this episode (listened to on my commute home) sparked my imagination.

So…if you’re bored…

Enjoy, cute friends!

iSpy: Something that Soars

In musings, synchronicity on October 6, 2010 at 8:28 am

I saw magic hovering over the expressway this morning. An ebb and flow of hundreds of birds, gliding as one.

Up. Down. Around.

Oblivious to the traffic jam of cars, which were not moving as one!

What is it like to be in sync so completely? To daringly dip and soar without fear?
Perhaps the magic of this morning’s little black cloud is to let intuition guide me.

Or maybe…it was simply a flock of happy little birds!

You Never Close Your Eyes…

In grateful, monthly recap, painting with light on June 30, 2010 at 6:26 pm

…anymore when I kiss your lips…”

[Where’d we go wrong? Is there…is there…someone else?]

I know. I know. It has been forever since we chatted. [And I’m doing fine, thanks for asking!]

But I’d be remiss if I let June pass without a nod to the up-and-down whirlwind it brought.

So, June, here’s looking at you, baby:

1. Spent the afternoon catching up with my sister and her family. Loved, loved, loved seeing them!

2. Sat on the deck and experienced the wonder of being surrounded by fireflies.

3. Waved at onlookers, as the bus I was riding drove through the middle of the Puerto Rican parade in NYC.

4. Laughed, giggled and guffawed with some dear friends, while on a wild excursion to the Big Apple.

5. Listened to the very cool stylings of Christylez Bacon.

6. Splurged and saw a real movie in a real movie theater!

7. Took the back roads and wandered my way up to the Baltimore harbor.

8. Was reminded that, yes, hydrangeas really are one of the most magical plants. I. Want. Blue. Flowers.

9. Said goodbye to my highfalutin career as a barista. [You said you wanted a half-caff, non-fat, no-foam, 190-degree, sugar-free-vanilla latte?]

10. Oh, yeah–breathed a sigh of relief as I started a new job! Whoosh!

So very blessed. Blessed, indeed.

All Aboard?

In grateful, musings on June 12, 2010 at 5:13 am

Haze hanging, illuminated by the rising sun. Green fields blur past. Speckles of suburbia appear and are replaced with whirring water. The departing whistle sounds.

(“All a-boar-d,” I whisper to myself.)

With two days of my unemployed freedom remaining, I’m on a train– headed to NYC for a last-minute vacation.

Won’t you share the trip with me?

And, Lo, the Clouds Parted

In grateful, musings on June 3, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Nah…that wasn’t a chorus of angels, it was just me…being all giddy and such.

Well, if you’ve been following the saga-of-the-unemployed lady, you might have guessed from that stellar opening that the hunt is…[drum roll, please]…over.

A big ol’ thanks to all of the crossed fingers, toes, eyes and legs! Your contortionist movements paid off, my friends…thanks!

[Sigh. A big sigh, indeed.]

…just got a little light-headed over that realization. Think I’ll just sit and let that soak in for a minute.

Could You?

In choose your destiny, musings on June 2, 2010 at 7:14 pm

I mean, would you?

Would you…please?

You see, I had a second interview today and there’s the big ol’ part of me that’s afraid to hope. So could you…well, would you hope for me?

Crossing my fingers, my toes, my eyes and…well…just about anything that’ll cross!

Here’s hoping, friend.
